With summer wrapping up and coming to a close, I wanted to take this one last chance to enjoy some summer raspberries in season. We understand the benefits of eating foods in season right? Fruits and vegetables eaten in their season actually have more vitamins and minerals because their temperature and humidity are ideal for cellular growth and absorbing nutrients from the soil. More importantly, they taste better and are much more affordable in season!


What better way to enjoy them than with this Raspberry Superfood Smoothie. Here’s what’s in it:


Raspberries – Native to Europe, raspberries grow exceptionally well in a moderate climate. The red raspberry is the most common, but there are hybrids in orange, purple, yellow and white. Raspberries are rich in vitamin-C, which helps the body fight off free radicals, as well as boosts overall immunity, and counters inflammation. Raspberries also contain vitamin A and vitamin E which also aid in the disease prevention process.


Hemp Seed – These seeds contain more essential fatty acids than anything on the planet. Hemp Seeds are also much higher in protein than other seeds and nuts.


Maca – A peruvian root vegetable that can grow at almost any altitude, Maca has been known as the “Peruvian Ginseng”, for it’s numerous health benefits.


Limes – You know we support the idea of keeping the body in an alkaline state. Studies show that staying in an alkalized state boosts brain function, reduces risk of heart disease and even cancer.


Banana – We all know bananas are a source of potassium, which promotes heart health, including regulating blood pressure, cholesterol and even abnormal heart rhythms. Bananas also have shown to fight depression, because they contain tryptophan, which is a key ingredient in the production serotonin.


Cinnamon – This spice has been used for thousands of years throughout Asia, the Middle East and the Mediterranean. It’s uses have ranged from treatment of digestion and insomnia to fighting cancer and Osteoporosis and even as insect repellent.


RECIPE:


1 small banana

Juice of 1/2 lime

1/2 cup fresh or frozen raspberries

1 tsp. maca powder

1 tbsp. hemp seeds

1 pinch cinnamon

1 cup filtered water
